Upgrade Your PHP Software

In an ongoing effort to bring you the very best products and services, we will be upgrading all of our servers to PHP 7.4. In addition to improved data processing, which can boost your site’s speed and performance, you’ll also gain increased security. Newer versions of PHP have more frequent security updates to help protect your site against unwanted hacks or malware.

When will it happen? Between June 14, 2021 and June 18, 2021

What will happen?
During this window, we’ll attempt to upgrade the sub-accounts listed below to PHP version 7.4. These accounts may experience a brief disruption in service, but we will work quickly and use the most updated version of PHP your site will support.

If you wish to avoid this disruption, please ensure you have updated the PHP version on your sites before this time following the steps in the next section. In an effort to ensure that we do not cause any of your sites to break, we will first attempt a soft upgrade, upgrading only sites that we know will not be negatively impacted by this upgrade. This should provide time for your sub-accounts with older sites to update them or for you to remove inactive accounts before we update all sites to a supported version of PHP

Do I need to do anything on my end?
Yes, to avoid a negative impact, we recommend that you/your customers upgrade all of your web installations to the newest PHP software available before we upgrade your account. Newer versions of PHP are already available on your current server. You and your customers should also backup all of your website files.

PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 End of Life

As part of our commitment to provide a premier hosting service, we are sending this notice to inform you of an impending change with regards to what versions of PHP that cPanel will continue to support moving forward. We kindly ask that you read through the following notice carefully to ensure your are aware of anything that may affect your domain(s).

Scheduled Removal Date:Monday February 1st, 2021

Details: In May of 2019, cPanel announced via a blog post that they would be ending support for PHP 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 and 7.0, due to all of those versions having reached their End of Life term. They have not been specific as to a firm date for when support will end, however in order to proactively ensure that our servers are prepared for this change, we will be removing PHP 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, and 7.0 from our shared environments on the aforementioned date. Users currently utilizing any of those versions will need to prepare their sites to utilize at least PHP 7.4 or higher, as the default PHP version will be switched to PHP 7.4 when we implement the removal. As mentioned in the article, in order to prepare for this eventual removal, you may want to check what version your site(s) are currently utilizing. This can be done by logging into cPanel, and then navigating from cPanel -> Software -> MultiPHP Manager.

Estimated Downtime: We do not expect there to be any downtime associated with this removal, as it will be done automatically as part of our nightly cPanel maintenance procedures. That being said, your site may no longer function properly if you do not take the steps outlined in the blog post because as mentioned, your server’s default PHP version will be switched to utilize PHP 7.4 moving forward. To clarify, any site code currently referencing a PHP version older than 7.4 will no longer function properly, so we kindly ask that you plan ahead for this change.

Full Server Upgrade

Reason for maintenance:
We’re always working to improve the performance and reliability of our services. we’ve decided that an upgrade to our latest hardware and software configurations would be best to ensure that we’re providing the highest quality of service moving forward.

Action:
Our team is going to be taking your server offline in order to prevent any updates to websites during that time from being lost once the upgrade is complete. We will be backing up all server data, migrating it to the new server, and finally restoring the data. This full upgrade should improve performance and reliability for you and your clients across the board.

Maintenance Window: START: Friday, July 31st, 2020 @ 10:00 PM EDT – END: Saturday, August 1st, 2020 @ 8:00 AM EDT

Estimated Downtime:
Accounts will be put into maintenance mode for the duration of the migration (up to 24 hours) in order to ensure the integrity of all account data. We advise that you do not attempt to make any changes to your website until after the full maintenance window has ended as we cannot guarantee such changes will transfer. In addition, we highly encourage clients to backup any integral data prior to the migration and to thoroughly check and verify all sites and configurations post-migration.

Although we do not expect downtime to last the entire duration of the maintenance window, we would advise you to prepare for 6-10 hours of potential intermittent service interruptions during the restore just in case.

Statement Regarding Hurricane Dorian

As you may have already heard hurricane Dorian that is affecting Florida is strengthened to an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 hurricane. This hurricane may have an impact on our hosting provider, they have already informed us that the data center will be fully staffed and available during the storm to handle any potential issues that may arise, and that they have tested and verified all emergency infrastructure to ensure services remain up and available.

Data Center Physical and Power Infrastructure

Orlando enterprise data center features a building-within-a-building design, created to withstand Florida’s unique climate conditions. The windowless, single-story building features concrete masonry perimeter walls powerful enough to withstand practically any storm. Our data center will remain manned 24/7. Two diesel generators, 500KW Caterpillar and 1250KW Katolight, are also on location in the unlikely event of complete power loss. These impressive generators hold up to 2700 gallons of diesel fuel so your server will stay online.

Maintenance Details:

The primary difference between the current and upgraded versions is that the webmail client “SquirrelMail” will be removed from the server, as the webmail client is no longer supported by cPanel. If you are utilizing this webmail client, you will need to switch to one of the other two alternatives: Horde or RoundCube.

Estimated Downtime:

We understand the importance of minimizing downtime during any maintenance and for this reason we will do everything in our power to expedite the procedure, however, we don’t foresee any downtime during the course of this maintenance procedure.
